Insolvency Lawyers - SA
Much to the chagrin of the state's lawyers who, after cutting their teeth on some of the juiciest cuts of the early 1990's recession, have yet to experience the large corporate collapses or volumes of property-related insolvency work seen across other states. Nonetheless the state's insolvency lawyers remain fed by a steady list of mid-level insolvency matters. Unfortunately for those favouring the state's famed Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, areas most frequently seen by the state's insolvency lawyers were agribusiness and transport.
Within the rankings of Adelaide firms it's a mix of local firms of all sizes and a few national players. Top of the tree, as per usual for the state are Minter Ellison but they are joined, and arguably bettered, by a sizeable insolvency team at Kelly & Co and David Proudman's restructuring work at Johnson Winter & Slattery. Slightly below were the Cowell Clarke's debtor focussed practice, perennial heavyweights Finalysons, two young stars at O'Loughlins and the local/international team at Lipman Karas.
Within the next level many of the state's larger firms gained only occasional mention. A result many would believe brought about due to the perceived apathy of many firms towards insolvency and viewing it as a subset of commercial litigation rather than as a core area of practice.
All but a few of the state's senior lawyers felt more comfortable at Partner rates under the $450 mark. Some larger firms strained the friendship by pushing rack rates in the area of $500 per hour an above.
